Centre for Architectural Anthropology

The rich built heritage of Tamilnadu is to be documented in a systematic way to preserve for the future generation. INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural heritage) has taken an initiation to document and list the heritage buildings and also encouraging all schools of Architecture to be a part of it.

Faculty of Architecture Dr.M.G.R.University has its own Heritage club and doing many activities regarding preserving the heritage in the form of participating in social awareness programs, workshops, conferences and also conducting Faculty development program related to built heritage. In continuation with this, a center for Heritage studies will be established in Association with INTACH Chennai.

Objectives of the centre

  • To identify heritage buildings which are culturally, historically, socially, politically and architecturally important.
  • To document and to do the database in a systematic way according to the local and regional importance.
  • To undertake research projects of COA-INTACH scholarship awards.
  • To undertake projects of The Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, with a focus on holistic development of heritage cities.
