Research

Over the course of their academic careers at Faculty of Architecture, faculty members and students often take involved roles in ongoing research on campus. We have set up two centres of excellence to spearhead research opportunities, resources to provide support and visibility to original research work.

1. Center for Sustainability

This interdisciplinary approach ensures that architects are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to address pressing global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and urbanization.

At the Center for Sustainability, faculty members and architecture engage in research, education, and practice that promote sustainable design approaches.

The center also serves as a hub for collaboration and innovation, bringing together students, faculty, industry professionals, and community stakeholders to explore sustainable design solutions.

2. Center for Architectural Anthropology

While architecture is often thought of as a discipline focused on the design and construction of buildings, the Center for Anthropology brings a deeper understanding of human societies and cultures to the forefront of architectural education.

By studying anthropology, architecture students gain insights into the cultural, social, and historical contexts that shape the built environment. This understanding is essential for architects to create spaces that are not only functional and aesthetically pleasing but also responsive to the needs and values of the people who will inhabit them.

The Center for Anthropology offers architecture students the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary research and collaboration, exploring how architecture intersects with anthropology, sociology, psychology, and other fields.Faculty members introspect methodologies to conduct ethnographic research, allowing them to study human behavior and interactions in the context of the built environment.
